This blog is Day Five of my 30 days of motherhood blogging challenge. Every day, for 30 days, I’m sharing diary-style snippets of my life as a working mum to one cheeky toddler. Consider this part creative experiment, part self-therapy. Feel free to play along at home! You can read days one to four here.
Today was a very Good Friday.
The Easter long weekend is one of my favourite public holidays. Four days together without the stress of Christmas? Yes, please.
I don’t have much to share about motherhood today because Tom took on most of the parenting duties. He took Zoey to the zoo this morning so I could work from home, then I went out to lunch with my girlfriends (heaven!). This afternoon, we made the most of the sunshine and met friends at the beach for an early fish-and-chip dinner.
Honestly, it was a pretty perfect day. I love it when Tom’s home and we can parent together – everything feels so much lighter and easier. One of the biggest shocks I experienced when Zoey was first born was realising that I was going to spend most of my days parenting ‘alone’. Some days I still struggle with feelings of isolation and loneliness when Tom leaves for work. I don’t believe new mothers are wired to spend so much time alone, navigating newborn and toddler years with only their screens for support (but that’s a post for another day).
Here’s to three more days of parenting together. I hope you, too, are surrounded by family and friends this Easter.
